The Northern Hemisphere will be entering the Winter Solstice on December 21, 2020, bringing with it the shortest day of the year. This marks the first day of winter, and the sun rises later and sets earlier during the Winter Solstice season. Spiritually, the Winter Solstice is a time of reflection and hope for the future. Since ancient times this dark and long night has signified that the Sun was getting ready to embark on the long journey back towards this side of the Earth. With the return of the Sun comes warmer, brighter days and a time of rebirth. The Winter Solstice is a day where the Sun appears to stand still in the sky, so this time is used to honor the upcoming changes of the Seasons. The energy of Mother Earth is that of rebirth and renewal during the Winter Solstice, evoking powerful opportunities for deep self-reflection.
This period celebrates releasing old patterns and welcoming new intentions and manifestations. Rituals may be performed to honor the Winter Solstice and the goals we set for ourselves. Setting up an Altar is a great way to acknowledge this changing of the seasons, with candles, crystals and herbs. Cedar, Mistletoe, Frankincense and Pine are all herbs that can be used at your sacred space. You may burn these herbs or place them along the Altar. You may add drops of rich and warming essential oils of Vetiver, Cinnamon, Clove or Eucalyptus to tiny bowls or diffusers. Ginger oil and tea also make for an ideal element to incorporate, as well as gingerbread, nuts and berries. Apples, cranberries and dried rose petals are nice and edible additions.
Journaling, meditating and salt baths are other rituals you can perform to bring in the new season. Walking in nature to connect to Gaia serves as another way to honor the Winter Solstice. Clearing and cleaning the home, as well as removing clutter, signify you are ready to be out with old and in with the new. Burn incense or herbs after cleaning to remove stagnant energy and welcome in positivity. Drops of essential oils may be placed around the home or sprayed from a bottle mixed with witch hazel around the rooms to compliment the newly tidied space. Repeating Mantras or intentions aloud or written aids with manifestation as the new season unfolds. An affirmative Mantra for Winter Solstice could include: “I welcome abundance and prosperity for my greatest good.”
The Winter Solstice may also be honored through the use of different crystals. Crystals to use during this transition include:
Garnet for gratitude and self-empowerment, Red Jasper for grounding and Earth connections, Ruby for passion and vitality, Green Aventurine for abundance and prosperity and Amethyst for release and transformation support. They may be used for energetic healing, meditation, placed at your Alter, under your pillow, worn as jewelry or placed around the home. There are many ways to enjoy and work with the different crystals this Winter season.
The Winter Solstice represents a magical time of renewal, hope and new beginnings. Embrace this transitional this time with self love and healing. Take time to honor and respect the Earth and all that comes with this changing season.

2020 brings its own energy into the holidays and I wanted this last segment of the year to carry us into 2021 with loving arms, and then the lovely Tumbled Stilbite which we recently received just popped into my mind.
