Crystal Talk in March

World Water Day is on March 22 and we all know how important water is to this planet as well as our own bodies. Did you know up to 60% of the human adult body is water? It's remarkable how connected we are to water and yet, we don't cherish it as well as we should. To celebrate World Water Day, I give you my favorite water crystal: Larimar

Larimar

There is something so peaceful about Larimar and it speaks to me of floating on a body of water, trusting that you are supported here so you can let go now.

Because it's connected so deeply to Dolphins and "helps you see who you really are" as Philip Permutt says, I believe that it encourages you to see yourself  with a nurturing eye, not a critical one.

Something interesting that came up for me while meditating with this stone is the "strengthening of bonds" - both amongst each other as well as our planet.

Also, Larimar encourages you to speak your inner truth from the heart with complete clarity, even when it's regarding difficult topics. It's a great one for meditations because it helps connect with higher vibrational energy that enhances communication with angels, guides, guardians and Source. Larimar helps to identify, clarify and understand your own current perception of all things in life, within and without and the need to change. It even goes further to support the process of change, encouraging you to embrace it then begin to move through the process effortlessly.

If you find yourself struggling lately with tunnel vision, critical self-talk and the ability to let life flow, then work with a little bit of Larimar magic.

Creative Crystal Blessings,
Siobhan

This month we have two, awesome articles to share with you:
Dawn Marino from HealByDawn shares more about Ostara, the Spring Equinox as well as what crystals we can work with! Also, Beth Dalvi from Dignity Holistic Care shares with us her experience at the 2020 Tucson Gem Show! How exciting!

Spring Equinox / Ostara

Spring Equinox Ostara (Image By shannynkm)

Mother Earth is starting to bloom and regenerate as we are about to celebrate the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. This year, the first day of Spring (also often referred to and celebrated as “Ostara”) falls on March 19th, which is a Thursday. The Equinox marks a time where the length of the day and that of the night is mostly equal throughout the world! As we start to move into Spring, the sun will rise earlier and set later in the evening, creating longer days of light. As we begin preparations to honor the arrival of Spring, in the Southern Hemisphere the time has come to celebrate the Fall Equinox. In the Northern Hemisphere, the Spring Equinox also goes by the name “Vernal” Equinox.

On the Spring Equinox in March, the Sun takes a journey across the Celestial Equator, traveling from the South to the North. During this time, the Earth’s axis is not tilted towards the Sun. Once the Spring Equinox has passed, however, the Northern Hemisphere of the Earth starts to tilt towards the Sun, resulting in the start of the longer and brighter days we come to find with the arrival of Spring!

Spring represents a period of new growth and abundance, a time of fertility and fresh beginnings. Ostara is the Pagan celebration honoring this time of renewal and all the season has to offer. The celebration is derived from the Goddess Eostre, a Goddess of the Spring and of the Dawn, who held a festival spanning several days to honor the Spring Equinox. Ostara recognizes the uniting of Mother Earth and the Sun God in a sacred union akin to marriage.

As often found during Easter celebrations, Ostara is celebrated with activities related to eggs, as they are a symbol of fertility. Egg painting, egg races and egg hunts are all part of the festivities. These activities revolve around paying homage to Mother Earth and starting anew for the season. Other Ostara rituals may include a period of fasting as a way to represent purging the remains of the Winter season to make way for new beginnings, or the ritual of planting an herb garden to cultivate and use as the weather begins to turn warm.

How can you honor the Spring Equinox? A sacred altar may be created in your living space where you can add flowers, crystals and candles. On your altar you may also burn incense or diffuse oils that are floral in note to represent the season. Some scents and flowers ideal for Ostara include Rose, Jasmine, Violets and Daffodils.

You may also honor the Spring Equinox by meditating and reflecting on your intentions for the upcoming season. You may write your intentions in a journal or on a piece of paper that you can place on your altar.

Another ritual to honor the new season is to take a long walk in nature. Pay special notice to the sounds, smells and feel of the new warmth emerging. Connecting with nature is a great way to ground yourself in preparation for this next cycle.

Those who celebrate Ostara honor the season by choosing to consume foods reminiscent of the Spring, such as leafy greens, seeds, nuts, sprouts and vegetables. You can also plant some seeds in your garden as a way to pay respect to Mother Earth and the Spring Equinox.

What about crystals? Crystals offer a way to connect ourselves on a deeper level during this transition and aid us as we work towards healing different aspects of ourselves. During the Spring Equinox, Green Calcite will help you release any negative emotions you may be holding onto and connect you to your Heart Chakra. Not only does Green Calcite guide us towards a fresh start, this healing crystal also reminds us of our connections to Mother Earth and the many wonders of nature just in time for Spring!

For happy vibrations and increased vitality this season, Sunstone will help you work through energetic blockages so you can start this season anew and with a vibrant, positive outlook. For abundance and prosperity, work with Moss Agate to promote growth and a deeper appreciation of nature. This crystal is also very nurturing, and can help when setting new intentions this time of year. You can find a warm vibrance with Carnelian this Spring, as it evokes passion and energy. Known for being grounding, Carnelian offers a boost to get you going on the next part of your journey.

The Spring Equinox represents a time of new beginnings, fresh starts and planted seeds. We can honor the new life that is beginning to bloom all around us by following our own rituals to pay respect to Mother Earth. This season allows us to regain a sense of balance, inspiration and hope as we ease forward into brighter, longer days.

My trip to the 2020 Tucson Gem Show

This year I had an opportunity to take my businesses, Dignity Holistic Care and DH Crystal Company, to the annual Tucson Gem Show in Tucson, Arizona for a bit of crystal shopping!

This year the show ran (officially) from January 30th to February 10th, 2020 and an estimated over 65,000 people were thought to have attended.

The show originally started in 1955 and was held in a local high school gym. Over the past 65 years the Tucson Gem Show has grown to over 50 different shows in various area within Tucson. It is estimated that between 1996 and 2010 there was an average of about thirteen hundred total dealers from forty-nine states and thirty-two countries in attendance.

It was my first time at the gem show, and I’m not gonna lie, it was O-VER-WHEL-MING!!! Seriously, so many crystals, and so little time! I started with the Kino Show which is held at the Kino Sports Complex. I was able to purchase many needed for my businesses while here, and then there were those items I purchased that were impulsive and personal in nature… and not really planned for, or needed *insert eye roll*.

From Kino, I moved to the JOGS show, the Holidome show, the Motel 6 show (and the various other hotel shows in that area), and ended at the 22nd Street show. Needless to say, I didn’t see half of what I had planned to see, however, in the 3 days of attendance, I met new people, both attendees as well as sellers, and even had an opportunity to meet well-known crystal professionals, like the amazing Philip Permutt!! I saw crystals that I had never seen before, and found many fake crystals in the process of walking around. Most of all, I came and slayed my list… and my budget.

Some crystals that I carried with me during my time at the show:

Because I flew to Tucson, I carried my “heavy hitters”. My “HH” collection includes Selenite (good for clearing unwanted energies from my aura, bringing peace), Black Tourmaline (which is grounding and good for deflecting EMF’s from various electronic devices), and Hematite (absorbs surrounding negative energies) and my evil eye amulet. By the way, all of these stones are protective as well.

Of course, I came home with personal pieces: A beautiful Larimar ring (a high vibrational stone which helps bring calm and balance, removing any stress), an Amethyst (encourages inner strength and is a third eye chakra stone) hamsa pendant and a Lapis Lazuli freeform (a stone of communication, connecting to spiritual guardians and helping with dream work and spiritual journeying).

Some tips if you are planning to attend:

  • Research before you go and make a game plan!!
  • Pick up the various guides available around town to get an idea of where things are and what is happening.
  • Make a budget!! As I said before, “so many crystals, so little time!!!"
  • Payment for purchases can be made in cash (most accepted with overseas vendors), with check, and with credit cards (OK to use with large multi-tent or wholesale vendors).
  • Anyone is able to shop and make purchases at the shows in Tucson, however, if you are a business wanting to make purchases at the wholesale pricing, be sure to take copies of your states tax ID number, certificate of business, and plenty of business cards!
  • If you are not able to pack your purchases in your suitcase, research which mode of shipping or transportation for your purchases is best for your situation. **Hint: If you ship them home yourself, prepare to add at that cost to your budget. **Tip: If you box them yourself be sure to bubble wrap your purchases well, and tape your ENTIRE box with tape so it does not split during shipping… trust me on this one!!!!
  • Most of all, go and have FUN!!!!!

The dates for the next Tucson Gem Show are set for January 30th to February 14th, 2021. Hope to see you there!

With Peace ~ Beth at Dignity Holistic Care / DH Crystal Company
